Jimmy Darnell Hamilton

Jimmy Hamilton is a world-renowned leader in the dance and entertainment industry. Best known for his pioneering work in the dance form of "Stepping," Jimmy is seen by many as one of the "Godfathers."
Born to a musician and a composer, Jimmy spent much of his childhood surrounded by the arts. Upon attending college at California State University at Northridge, Jimmy was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and began performing in step shows and competitions around the state. By 23, Jimmy founded The 1ST Professional Step Company dedicated to the traditional art form of steppin' with his fraternity brothers, and set out to risk it all on a career in entertainment. Jimmy and his Step Company, Step X Step, appeared on and choreographed step routines for N.B.C.'s A Different World and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the hit film House Party 2, The N.A.A.C.P. Image Awards, and two nationally televised commercials for Gatorade and Coca Cola. Jimmy has defeated 3rd stage cancer recently, and is on a mission to debut his company despite COVID: "I'm serving others for now until I can finally share my gift with the world." 2021.
Continuing to lead the way with the stepping movement, Jimmy and his Step Company, Step By Step, co-produced and choreographed the world's first nationally televised Step Out Chamionship called STOMP. The competition was one of the first stage productions at Walt Disney World's M.G.M. Studios in Orlando, Florida during the 1990s. One of Jimmy's proudest achievements was when his Company was called upon to choreograph and teach Steppin' to the King of Pop Michael Jackson himself.

Creative innovator and activist, Jimmy is missioned to make the world happy, "HAPPINESS MATTERS" is the Gumbo Step Theatre moto. Jimmy is determined to share his message of Hope Health Wealth & Love with his new Step Company, GUMBO STEP THEATRE COMPANY INCORPORATED.

Gumbo Step Theatre Company is a high energy infusion of multiple arts including all genres of dance, and musical theatre concepts from the Kemet Theatrical Technique dated before 2,500 B.C., formed as an innovative entertainment GUMBO, triumphant with sizzle!

Jimmy's passion continues to help curtail high school drop out rates, and the growing epidemic of childhood obesity through the unique art form of Steppin'. Jimmy believes that exposing this art to our youth will continue to inspire their pursuit to a higher education in hope to make their dreams become a reality.
